About Course

Child protection is a crucial issue that frequently draws national attention. The tragic cases of child abuse and exploitation underscore the need for constant vigilance and proactive measures to safeguard vulnerable children and young people. Public scrutiny often falls on the professionals responsible for child protection, which can create a sense of vulnerability and hesitation among clinical staff. However, as healthcare professionals, we have a fundamental duty to actively engage in safeguarding practices. To meet this responsibility effectively, it is essential to be proficient in safeguarding procedures and to understand the competencies required. These competencies, outlined in professional guidelines, equip healthcare staff with the confidence and expertise needed to protect children. This session focuses on Level 3 safeguarding competencies, building on the foundational knowledge from Levels 1 and 2. It guides you in assessing your own strengths and areas for improvement in safeguarding practices. The module also includes a case study illustrating the critical role health professionals play in protecting children and young people. You are encouraged to engage with the case study, discuss it with colleagues, and reflect on how you would manage similar situations in your practice. This module is designed to help you understand who requires Level 3 child protection training, determine the necessary amount and type of training, and assess your competencies in safeguarding children and young people. Through interactive questions and tailored feedback, you will identify areas for development and create a personalised learning plan to enhance your safeguarding skills.
